Shiv was born and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. He went to the Georgia Institute of Technology, earning his bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering. Shiv then entered the United States Air Force and went to Undergraduate Pilot Training at Williams AFB, AZ. After earning his Silver Wings, Shiv was selected to fly the F-16. He flew the F-16 in various locations throughout the world, including 42 combat missions in Operation Desert Storm and 57 combat missions enforcing the no-fly zone over Iraq. Shiv currently serves part-time as an Instructor Pilot in the Air Force Reserve, holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. A command pilot with over 3000 hours, including 300 combat hours, Shiv has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal and the Aerial Achievement Medal. Shiv also holds an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) license, which is the highest level of civilian aircraft pilot certification.

Shiv attended law school at John Marshall Law School – Atlanta, graduating number one in his class. He received the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence and was also selected by the faculty for the Wig and Gavel Award as the student most likely to succeed in the practice of law. He is a member of the Georgia Bar and has been practicing law since 2006. Shiv co-authored an article on extraterritorial personal jurisdiction which includes an in-depth case study of Georgia’s long-arm statute that was published in the Spring 2007 edition of the Seton Hall Circuit Review. He also wrote an article on reimbursement claims by employer-sponsored ERISA health care plans.
